A Short Time Between The Cradle & The Grave

Kitchener, Ontario

It occurs to me that life is definitely a cycle. When we are born we must rely on others to take care of us, and as we grow old we are increasingly dependent on others again. But in the middle we somehow think that we can and must do it all alone. And so we build up a strength that is sometimes not a strength at all, but a smokescreen. Inside we are still the little boys and girls wanting someone to take care of us. And thus we enter relationships that are more need-based than love-based, even without knowing that we're doing it.

What is the solution? Returning to the solitude, to the safe haven that we were held in when in our mother's womb. Returning to the only one who can quench the unquenchable. Some call this God, some call it the inner voice of love, and some "the higher self." There are so many temptations and distractions that we hope will fill that need, that will make us feel truly content and at peace. We can spend a lifetime chasing after them. And then we either get angry at people for not making us happy, or mad at ourselves for once again falling into the same pattern.

The answer time and time again comes in solitude, where the answers already within ourselves can be unlocked. St. Augustine said, "Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee."

Seeing beautiful bouquets of flowers in the local flower shop is pleasant to the eye, but before getting there they had to be a vulnerable seed hidden in the ground.
